Generosity

Called to Be a Help Meet

In the Word of God husbands are exhorted to love their wives “just as Christ loved the Church and gave himself for it” (Eph. 5:25). As believers we are the both the body and the bride of Christ, just as a husband and wife are called to be “one flesh” (Eph. 5:31).

As the Bride of Christ, the Church is Jesus’ help meet just a wife is the help meet to her husband (Gen. 2:18). Although a large part of my blog is about saving money, giving is not all about money: it’s about time, energy, and resources too.

The Example Set Before Us

God has set before us an example in giving, in that he provided The Ultimate Gift .  We know, according to His Word, that if we seek first the Kingdom of God, and His Righteousness, that all things will be added to us. When we are living God’s way, our obligation to our spouses and our families is secondary to our obligation to Him, and our obligation to others comes after our family. To first order of giving to God, is the giving of ourselves: to lay down self will, to seek His face and to be led by His Spirit in obedience. Monetary giving is a by-product of the giving of ourselves.

Since I am first and foremost the Lord’s help meet, the top 20% of all earnings from my blog go to support the preaching of the Cross. So that others may find eternal life in Jesus Christ.

I Corinthians 1:18
For the preaching of the cross is to them that perish foolishness; but unto us which are saved it is the power of God.

Giving When Resources are Limited

As a homeschool family living on a tight budget, my ability to give monetarily is not what I would have it to be. However, I believe God and know that I am reaping rewards that are of eternal value and consequence. My prayer for now is that God would make me a good steward of the time,  energy, money, and resources that He has entrusted me with; that they would be used for His glory.

Gleening From the Edges

One way that I have found to bless others, was to quit ‘gleening from the edges’. Items that I used to resale, such as clothing and books, I now take to our local “Friendship Center’ where the proceeds from their sale goes to help feed the homeless. God blessed me with the items in the first place, allowing the remnant to bless someone else is the least I can do. There  is still the occasional item that I buy with the intention of resale (such as some of the more expensive homeschool curriculum)  that I would not be able to afford it otherwise, but for the most part I have a no resale for profit policy.

What about you? I would love to share ideas from my readers. Have you found a unique way to be generous with others?
